Shy, sun-loving fish, ocean sunfish are the worlds heaviest bony fish, (ie bone as opposed to cartlidge). Females of the species can produce more eggs than any other known vertebrate - up to 300,000,000 at a time.
They swim through swinging their dorsal fin and anal fin in a characteristic sculling motion.
We lifted this sunfish aboard momentarily as she drifted past HARPY's stern dive platform. Lifting her aboard was like lifting a large iron manhole cover - it required to men to lift her. When we put her back she was unfazed by the incident, sculling away slowly.
