L.E. AOIFE was built at Verolme dockward, Cork to the Naval Services ‘DEIRDRE’ design. However, she was modified for stability and speed. Her bows allow for the rapid shedding of green water whereas the DEIRDRE's bulwarks hindered flow. She was also fitted with a bow thruster to improve manoeuvrability especially in confined waters.
