In Summer of 2024 HARPY and crew were involved in the planning and raising of one of the propellors of WW1 german u-boat UC-42. The location was 5nm south of Roches Point, Cork.
HARPY travelled from Kinsale to the wreck site in about 90mins. Divers attached lifting strops to the prop under the supervision of underwater archaeologist Julianne O'Donoghue of Mizen Archaeology. HARPY's HIAB easily lifted the propellor from the seabed. Once safely aboard the return trip began, the prop was kept wet with the water from the deck hose to stop the beginning of artefact breakdown and corrosion and News agents such as RTÉ were contacted - hence this YouTube video.
Once the propellor has been conserved and preserved it will go the Spike Island Museum in Cork harbour.
